3 Tips on Wearing a Canadian Tuxedo

Top: Cheap Monday from Urban Outfitters // Jeans: Forever 21 // Booties: Guess from DSW

Double the denim, double the fun. That's a saying, right? I like to believe that the Canadian tuxedo is as timeless as the LBD. When I think of denim ensembles. two images immediately rush to my brain. Justin Timberlake and Britney in their matching denim prom date getup and Jay Leno. Swoon to both amiright?!

Unfortunately, we all can't look as effortless in the blue hue as ol' Jay so here are some tips to keep in mind while sporting a Canadian tuxedo:

1. Go for different shades. The mixture of a light and darker shade of denim just makes it more interesting and will prevent you from looking like a bad attempt at a matching suit.

2. Keep your accessories simple. You're wearing double denim, let's not overshadow the masterpiece.

3. Add one item of visual interest. Whether it's a leather bomber, statement heels, or the "I don't give a tuck" half shirt tuck, be bold and own it.

Wild Wednesday

Skirt: Isabel Marant // Vest: Banana Republic // Booties: Guess // Cuff: YSL //Lipstick: Milani in Black Cherry

When I first found this skirt as part of my Boxing Day Sale adventure, I knew it was going to be fine. There was one issue, I had no clue how to style it. A quick google search for style inspo (because I'm far too old to know how to tumblr) lead me to this image of Beyonce styling it with a matching top, which unfortunately was not available - no help.

I started with the bottom. It's January so obviously tights was mandatory. I calmed down the loud print up top with a black turtle neck that feels like has been glued to my body this month. Something still didn't feel right, it was missing something..but what? I added a statement necklace and the look went to Real Housewives of New Jersey real quick so that wasn't gonna happen. The addition of the vest added just what I needed..if only I wasn't too late to steam it..

Pantone 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity

Not so breaking news: Pink and blue are no longer reserved for nurseries.

For the first time ever, Pantone's colour of the year is actually TWO colours: Rose Quarts and Serenity. The perfect combination of pink and blue pastel shades and I ain't mad at it. I have been obsessed with pastel shades and I am all about this combination. So clearly, I was going to take it as an opportunity to pair these two hues together in one outfit.

Winterizing Ripped Denim

I love the look of ripped denim with stilettos, but on the morning after a snowstorm, the thought of anything but boots/booties was just unrealistic. This pair of jeans from the Gap is rapidly becoming my go-to pair!

Book of Braids Brunch

Last Sunday, I attended the Book of Braids Brunch held at HS Studio Salon Spa, which was a complete 180 of how I usually spend my Sundays - binge watching TV shows in a flannel onesie, but it was a welcomed change!

Walking into the salon put an instant smile on all the girls' faces as we were all greeted with sweet treats and an even sweeter salon team. Sugar coma and braids = an adult girl's version of an afternoon birthday party.
The Book of Braids was released by Kerastase demonstrating a more couture way of including braids in your hairstyle. There are instructions so every girl can try these styles at home. Braids have really come a long way since I was a kid. My mom used to braid my hair everyday before school and put two clips on each side, which basically looked like horns. That's how cool I was in Grade 2. My braid history didn't end there. After an "incident" with bangs in 3rd year university went wrong, I covered it up with a side braid every. single. day. The side braid just became a part of me and was the extent of my braiding skills so I was very excited to learn more interesting braids to add to my routine.
Sophie Kieley, the stylist who chose to tackle my mane, did a combination of two of the braids in the book. It was a braid remix if you will.
My friend, Natasha, went with a braided updo and I was so in love!
We're adorable, that's all I can really say about these next pictures..
Thank you HS Studio Salon Spa for a lovely afternoon! I can't wait to come back!

What are some of your favourite takes on hair braids?

Monday Blacks

Monday blues should really be re-named to Monday blacks, it is the colour of mourning after all. Although technically, this outfit was worn last Friday, it seemed fitting to post today. Here is the list of what I'm feeling black about today:

1. End of the weekend
2. Start of the second week of this death of a cough
3. Mucus
4. The pain I will feel during today's workout class
